Your insurance company shouldn’t cancel you immediately if they don’t receive payment on the due date. However, most car insurance companies will cancel you if you don’t make the payment soon after that. I would call your car insurance company immediately and let them know you will be late and when you are making payment. This should prevent cancellation of your policy.

I don’t know about your state, but in SC there is a 25 day grace period…but you will be charged a late fee by your ins provider.

it depends. I know pay my insurance monthly but my insurance cards say from may to sept. I believe if i miss the payment for a couple of days i would still be insured. as long as they recieve the payment.

The insurance company can drop your policy for non-payment.

no, you will be insured. A lapse of insurance is when your insurance was either cancelled or your policy expired. now if your payment is on a renewal date then chances are you probably wont be covered.

i think most car insurance companies bill you ahead of time. thats why there is such a big down payment. You are only uninsured if you get a letter of cancellation.

Generally they will attempt to notify you, and give you 30 days grace period after the notification. Only your agent can answer that for your insurance company of course, so make the call and ask.

Just a couple days? Nah… I’ve been late by a month and not had a problem. And they’ll send you a letter telling you that if you don’t send them X amount by Y date than you will be suspended on a particular date.
Dont’ worry about it. Wouldn’t hurt to call them as a courtesy and let them know.

Depends on the terms of your insurance. Get it automatically withdrawn to prevent future problems.

Years ago you could deal with your Insurance co. and as long as you had a history with them, then on expiry, if not payed yet, they would roll over the insurance for a few days until I payed .I’ve been dealing with the same co. for 25 years, and last year,I didn’t pay on time and they cancelled my insurance…I could not believe it. Just goes to show you that loyalty in today’s world means nothing…so if I were you,I would not chance it.

Not beyond the date that the policy is in effect to. If your policy is effective from 01/01/07 through 06/30/07 and you’ve paid for those six months, and your next renewal payment isn’t paid until 07/03/07, those 3 days – you’re not covered. There is no valid policy in effect after 06/30/07 unless you pay before that day and renew the policy.

DEPENDS ON THE INS.CO. SOME HAVE GRACE PERIODS WHERE YOU ARE STILL COVERED, OTHERS DONT. CHECK WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL ONES.

In most states, they have to send you a cancellation letter with usually a 10 day notice stating that you will be uninsured if you don’t pay by a certain date and time.
So if you miss when the car insurance payment is initially due by a couple of days, you will most likely still be insured. Although, they may subtract the payment you owe them from any payment they make to you in an accident.

First of all, CALL your insurance agent. Tell them the problem and ask them what to do. But if your insurance expires on that day usually midnight, and a day or two later you get into an accident, NO you are NOT covered.
In some states, they will cite you, impound the vehicle, and depending on how bad the injuries (if any) are-they would determine if you go to jail right then or not.
If vehicle is impounded, you pay towing, storage per day, booking fees, have to prove the vehicle is yours and proof of Valid ID and Insurance. This is if they allow you to pick up the vehicle after it would be impounded.
Roughly expect to pay anywhere from $300 to $600 when you go to pick up the vehicle, plus if you were sited, most likely you’ll be going to court and slapped with more fines.
If the vehicle isn’t worth that much, let the tow yard keep it. They will sell it for cost of the tow. You can sometimes have a friend act as a buyer when it goes to auction (which many do not let the owners bid on their own cars) and you may get it back cheaper.

The way I understand it is you have a 30 day grace period after the payment is due. If payment is not made, you become uninsured.

It is highly likely your insurers will say” No you are not insured, we have advised, and reminded you of your renewal “

im pretty sure your insured because the payment says you if you pay the bill late you have to pay a little extra.. so if you do that then your fine.. i guess when your not insured is when you call and cancel it or if you dont get the next months insurance papers… also.. you should call them .. but since your going to pay the bill there shouldnt be a problem.
