Im wondering what students with cars do when they go divided to a propagandize where they dont need a automobile (in a city) though still wish to keep it for winter break/summer. It sucks carrying to compensate for word upon a months your divided so do word companies concede we to usually compensate a months we will make use of it?

As long as the car is licensed it needs to have insurance. One option is to place the car in a non-op status then you don’t need insurance, but the hassle of getting it re-registered every time you need to use it makes full time insurance look like the best way to go.

If it’s financed, you have to maintain continuous coverage on the vehicle.

You can get insurance on a monthly basis, however, your best rates are obtained by continuous insurance without breaks.
You need to talk to your insurance company or other companies and find out what type of rates they offer for low use vehicles, such as a recreational use rate wherein you don’t use the vehicle on a daily basis for commuting.
    Good luck.

For the most part you can’t do that. You would have to have your tags deactivated every time you leave town because DMV doesn’t know when you’re driving the car and when you’re not. So, if you have active tags you have to have insurance (at least in my state). The other thing is that if you have a lien on your car (making payments) the lienholder usually requires you to maintain insurance. Another factor is if you keep starting and cancelling policies you end up paying a lot more than necessary. Most insurance companies give you a discount for having insurance for 6 months prior…if you go even a day without insurance you lose that discount. I don’t know how much you’re paying but you could be saving more money with the discount than you would be saving by not paying every month. Go to your insurance agent and talk to them about it.
